↓ skip to main content home home + design portland guides style + beauty food + drink motherhood contact one of the best pizzas of my life january 14, 2016 food + drink no comments ↓ -- add comment we have two rosemary bushes in our yard that i swear are as big as i am. in an effort to keep them from taking over my yard i’ve been scouring the internets and cookbooks for ways to use the stuff. i definitely use it in my cooking but these bushes are so big i need to be using it like everyday in like everything for awhile. this past week we’ve made rosemary chicken noodle soup, the most divine rosemary shortbread cookies , and then just a couple nights ago we made this rosemary, red onion pizza with italian sausage: aka, the best pizza of my life. it was so, so good you guys. we used this recipe from food 52 as our base recipe and then adapted it. how we adapted… we added italian sausage to it. duh. we used a bag of new seasons’ pre-made pizza dough for our crust. it’s amazing. and easy. and we did a white sauce instead of a red sauce. i’m normally a hard-core red sauce person, but this white sauce my husband made turned me into a believer. he used this recipe , but substituted two cloves of minced garlic instead of onion (since the main topping for this pizza is red onions) and added freshly ground pepper and half cup parmesan after all the milk…yeah, it’s definitely a recipe that will meet all your new years resolution goals. now go, treat yourself this weekend to a bottle of wine and this delicious pizza. it will change your life. you’re welcome. now your turn! like and comment on this post: add comment share this post -- posted in food + drink -- rug hunt january 11, 2016 home + design no comments ↓ -- add comment we’ve sloooowly been getting rugs for our house. we finally got one for the living room ( this one ) and it feels like pure luxury (i waited so long for a good sale to get it). i swear eleanor is much more content playing by herself all of a sudden because of it. she has a place to sit and play with her toys and june to lay and roll around comfortably. it’s amazing how one seemingly small addition to a room can make all the difference. i also recently got a few rugs for eleanor’s room too, fingers crossed it makes her room a more inviting place to play in now too. her room was a little harder for me to figure out the right rug for because it has a lot of weird angles and walls. in the end, a lovely soft flokati round rug was the way to go and a darling handmade, wool rug like this one , only a badger, for right by her bed. now i’m on the hunt for a colorful kilim rug for our spare room. it’s a small-ish room, at least for all that we use it for. it’s our workhorse room. it’s an office, where our projector is for movie/tv show watching/wii playing, and a guest bedroom (our couch in there turns into a bed). the walls are all painted white, the desk in there is mostly white and some light-stained wood, and the sofa-bed is a charcoal grey color. there are a few colorful pillows on the couch, and some green plants in there as well, but mostly it’s a neutral room. this is why i was thinking a colorful kilim rug might be nice. the key is big enough, soft enough, and not having to sell a limb to afford it… i’ve been looking on overstock , ebay , esale rugs , and kaya kilims mostly… where do you guys look for rugs? i would love more ideas! now your turn! like and comment on this post: add comment share this post -- posted in home + design -- “we should all be feminists” december 15, 2015 inspiration no comments ↓ -- add comment as a mother of two girls, this woman and the work she’s doing for women (and men for that matter) means everything to me. i have many worries for my girls as a mother, but one of the biggest is that they will be devalued, excluded, disrespected, denied, made dispensable…because of their gender. because they are female. more than anything, i want them to grow up in a world where it would never even occur to them to apologize for their femininity. i want them to be respected in all their femaleness, just as men are respected in all their maleness. because they deserve to be. and if you are a mother of boys, this video is for you too. i will simply quote her, because she nails it, “we do a great disservice to boys in how we raise them. we stifle the humanity of boys. we define masculinity in a very narrow way….we teach boys to be afraid of fear, of weakness, of vulnerability. we teach them to mask their true selves, because they have to be, in nigerian-speak–a hard man…but by far the worst thing we do to males–by making them feel they have to be hard–is that we leave them with very fragile egos. the harder a man feels compelled to be, the weaker his ego is. and then we do a much greater disservice to girls, because we raise them to cater to the fragile egos of males…we teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller.” yeah, watch it. and, lets all buy each other her book for christmas. probably the best $6 we’ll spend this christmas. now your turn! like and comment on this post: add comment share this post -- posted in inspiration -- there goes all my money… december 8, 2015 motherhood no comments ↓ -- add comment one of my all-time favorite brands, everlane , just came out with a “mini” collection for kids yesterday and now my world is complete. the company designs and produces all of its own goods and then sell them solely online so you get to save a good chunk of money on buying high quality basics. they cut out the middlemen so they can take smaller margins without sacrificing on quality at all. they are the reason i will ever get to own a piece of cashmere. and now they’ve gone and created a beautiful collection of basics for kids!
